In extreme environments - such as dirty environments, cold environments, large volumes such as warehouses and high spaces such as atria - point detectors cannot always detect fire early enough to avoid severe damage. For these environments, a different solution is required, such as aspirating smoke detectors, which are extremely sensitive to smoke and can differentiate smoke from dust. In addition, because air is actively drawn to the detector, it is able to pick up smoke much earlier than point detectors, including at the smoldering stage. As a result, it is able to overcome the challenges of stratification and humidity. It is also ideal for correctional facilities where vandalism may be a problem.

Kidde Commercial ModuLaser

Kidde Commercial ModuLaser is a multi channeled, very sensitive laser based aspirating smoke detection (ASD) system, which is coupled to the unique ClassiFire-3D Artificial Intelligence (AI) processor. The combination of this hardware and software provides a solution which is very resilient to nuisance alarms, and is routinely applied to provide protection in very dirty and dusty environments. At the other extreme, ModuLaser is capable of providing the very highest levels of sensitivity in environments such as computer areas and clean rooms. In these applications it is able to give warning to the very slightest trace of smoke. ModuLaser is fully capable of reacting to true INCIPIENT fire situations, thereby preventing damage.

The ModuLaser range consists of three display variants and a detector module.

The display module options are:

• Standard with TFT color display, status LEDs and navigation buttons
• Minimum with only status LEDs
• Command which is similar to the Standard but with added functionality to control various modules over SenseNET.

The Minimum and Standard Display Modules can each support up to 8 detector modules, while the Command Display Module can support up to 127 modules across the SenseNET network.
